The Indian media

I would like to start my blog by paying tribute to our freedom fighters and the army personnel who defend our country and all those who worked in their own ways for the development of this country....

I feel that there is a prime need for us to talk about our country, the happenings that affect our development after all we youngsters make up half of this country's population and we do have big aspirations for our country....I believe a  healthy debate can go a long way...So let us discuss and debate not just in the bloggosphere but in the real world too...

The recent controversy over the NiraRadia tapes have been a blessing. It has enabled us to take note of the dangerous nexus that exists between corporates, journalists and some political parties.I watch Barkha's 'We the people' regularly  and i had always looked up to(except her debate title 'The hindu terror' will she dare to use another religion name) her for her abilities,a women in a man's world, the Padmabhushan....

I feel it is important for us to not just satisfy ourselves with what the main stream media says but we need to make our own  assessments from various happenings. After all if a journalist utters "What should I say(Write)how can we believe him/her....  There is indeed a lot the media can do for the country's development but they are choosing to focus on their revenue stream. They are sensationalizing news and are not being effective watch dog's of democracy...

A couple of pointers in this direction.

->More recently in Bihar JD(U)+BJP combine made a landslide victory. The news made headlines but they lacked an analysis, which I feel was deliberate.

The JD(U) won 115 out of 141 seats it contested(81% of contested seats), and BJP winning 91 out of 102 seats it
contested(nearly 90% of contested seats). Also Advaniji in his
campaign has pointed to the fact that of all states in India
Gujarat is the state where the % of people is lesser than
any.People have substantiated his claims by giving a clear
mandate[based on inputs from a good magazine].

But no news channel provided an analysis of this
kind and they all along talked about Nitish Kumar and the
reason for Bihar result to be keeping Modi out of Bihar. What
a fool they out of people mandate.

->Kashmir is a big problem for India. But did media focus on giving the right analysis. They do not give the attention to Kashmir Pandits,Kashmir accedence to India,Kashmir's history...They instead feel it good to senstionalise about Arundati Roy.

->There are a lot of development schemes that media can talk about. The Green Revolution being a success had been attributed to All India Radio. They talked to farmers about development.Instead our media choose to focus on Arushi murder or other Bollywood Happenings...

->And why did the media became so very interested in parliamentary deadlock and common wealth games at the last moment when they never carried any information about the happenings in the house(except for LOK SABHA Tv which air's House Highlights at 9.30 PM which i'm sure many of us don't know exists) or when common wealth preparation had been going on for years.

Shame on you Indian media for letting us down and happy that media of your kind didn't exist during national movement or else who knows the freedom struggle wouldn't have acquired the form it did those days.

I strongly feel we should stop watching

thesechannels(NDTV,Times NOW,CNN-IBN..)except for the headlines and start discussions. When each of us discuss and pose questions the logical outcome would be much better....
